Champion Connections: Oscar Performance

Kentucky is known as the Horse Capital of the World for a number of reasons – we raise, race and care for some of the best horses here in the Bluegrass.

These experiences are a recommendation of ways to dive deeper into the life cycle of some of the fan favorites that call the Bluegrass home. Suggested tours might visit a place where a horse was raised, sold, raced or currently resides, along with other suggestions involving their racing rivals or family members.

Please note that all tours have to be booked separately, and we cannot guarantee any particular horse on any particular tour. All showings are made based upon the health and daily schedule of the equine residents

Horse Country Champion Connections: Oscar Performance

A Kentucky homebred for the Amerman family, Oscar Performance earned over $2.3 million in 15 starts during his three season racing career.

Mill Ridge Farm – Foaling to Stallion Duty

Visit 2016 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Oscar Performance at the farm where he was born and raised, and now stands at stud! He was born at Mill Ridge in 2014, and was bred and raced by the Amerman family, who have found success with other horses such as Adoration, Balance and more.

Oscar Performance entered stud in 2019, and his first crop of foals are two year olds in 2022. On your visit to Mill Ridge you’ll learn more about Oscar Performance’s racing and breeding career, and you might even meet some of his foals!

Hagyard and Rood & Riddle – Importance of Quality Veterinary Care

During his racing career, Oscar Performance suffered from a bout of colic that delayed the start of his four year old campaign. He recovered and went on to win the G3 Poker Stakes at Belmont Park – setting the world record for a mile on the turf!

Learn more about the importance of quality veterinary care and the many ways in which horses are cared for on a tour of one (or both!) of our two vet clinics. Hagyard Equine Medical Institute and Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital are both currently offering tours of their facility.
